A Study on the Ultrastructure of Dentinal Tubule and its Surrounding Structure

Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to observe the ultra- microstructure of the dentinal tubules and its surrounding structure of human dentin with the electron microscope.
Two stages filmy replica method with chromium and carbon was applied for this purpose. The samples were fixed in the osmic acid solution, decalcified in the E. D. T. A. and embedded into the methacrylate. The final samples were sliced by means of the ultra thin sectioning method.
The structure of the normal dentin, decalcified dentin, and carious dentin were observed; and the following results were obtained:
1) The structure of the inside dentinal tubules were appeared amorphous.
2) The structure at the viscinity to the dentinal tubules were appeared tubular membanous.
3) The highly calcified hard tissue was appeared in between the dentin matrix and the dentinal
tubules.
4) The fibrillar substance was appeared in between the dentin matrix and the membranous structure. 5) No collagen fibers were appeared in the dentin matrix on the decalcified samples.
